This theory-based assessment reviews many of the topics explained in Sailing 101, 201 and open water sailing and also presents aspects of ocean sailing/kayaking that any skipper/paddler must be knowledgeable of prior to sailing/kayaking outside the harbor. The participants completing the review questions are encouraged to take their time and work with other participants. Please allow one day of review before an Outside Ocean Qualification can be granted.
Whether your goal is sailing fast around a race course or making it to Ventura and back before sunset, you will want to step up to our Performance Sailing course. With this course, you will learn how to fly a spinnaker on a CFJ and sail as efficiently as possible. This course will be taught by our top instructors, who will cover the finer points of boat handling: how to use crew weight to your advantage, reduce rudder drag, roll tack and jibe, advanced sail trim, and how and when to use the boomvang, outhaul, Cunningham and other sail controls. This course is also a review of the basics as well as more advanced techniques including docking, anchoring, crew overboard recovery, and heavy weather sailing, all of which will be covered.
