
Camarillo, Calif., June 19, 2007—California State University Channel Islands President Richard R. Rush conducted a Swearing-In ceremony for John M. Reid, chief of police and director of public safety at the University.
The ceremony was held on the campus of Cal State Channel Islands in the President’s Courtyard on June 19. Several members of the law enforcement community were in attendance including CSUCI University Police, Ventura Community College Police, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, and the California State Highway Patrol. Additionally, many members of the campus community attended the event.
“The life of a chief of police on a university campus is somewhat different,” said President Rush. “The role of the chief is an educational leadership position to help students understand the responsibilities and rights of being citizens of a free society.”
Reid has served as the University Police Department’s Director of Public Safety since August 2006. He is a graduate of the 202nd session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., was formerly chief of police at the University of Wisconsin—Whitewater, and a police captain at the University of Arkansas. Reid holds a master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati.
