CI’s MVS School of Business & Economics presents 2010 fall speaker series

Camarillo, Calif., Sept. 30, 2010 – The Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics at CSU Channel Islands (CI) will present a series of three speakers beginning Friday, Oct. 8.  All three programs include lunch and are free and open to the public.

Speaking on Oct. 8 from 12 to 2 p.m. in Aliso Hall Room 150 on the CI campus will be Pamela Lopker, founder and President of QAD, located in Santa Barbara. In March 2001 Fortune Magazine named her “Hero of U.S. Manufacturing.” Her company develops software for manufacturing companies and its products are used by over 5,555 manufacturers in 50 countries.  She will speak about her background, experience starting her firm, and entrepreneurship.

The second in the series will be held on Friday, Nov. 5, from 12 to 2 p.m. in Malibu Hall on the CI campus and will feature Dr. Sung Won Sohn, Martin V. Smith Endowed Professor of Economics. Widely quoted on the world stage today, Sohn was named by the Wall Street Journal as one of the top five economists in 2009 and the “most accurate economist” in 2006.  He is cited daily in domestic and world press.

The third program will be held Friday, Dec. 3, from 12 to 2 p.m. in Malibu Hall on the CI campus and will feature Jeffrey S. Klein, Chairman and former CEO of 101 Communications. This is a return to Ventura County from an old friend who will offer a unique and historical perspective from a media entrepreneur and former LA Times senior executive.

Dr. William P. Cordeiro, Director of the Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics, said, "We have done lectures in the past but this is the first time we have put together a series.  There will be another series in the spring.  We do it to provide the students and the community with an opportunity to hear prominent business people share their thoughts and knowledge.”

The programs are sponsored by the MVS School of Business & Economics and the MVS Business Advisory Council. Please RSVP by visiting http://csuci.wufoo.com/forms/fall-2010-speaker-series. For additional information contact Merissa Stith at 805-437-8548 or merissa.stith@csuci.edu
