A: We are planning on entering the NCAA at the Division II level. We feel that this level would be the best level for us to compete and be successful. We also are considering membership in the CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association). This athletic conference is one the most successful Division II athletic conferences in the nation.

A: The school colors are red and silver. The red is consistent with the tradition of the region, and the silver is for the dolphin, the University mascot. The University resides on land first inhabited by the Chumash Indians. The Chumash asked CSU Channel Islands to consider making its mascot the dolphin, which is cherished by the tribe. The University and student leadership warmly embraced the idea.
A: Through its programs and services, Campus Recreation assists students in creating a healthy lifestyle by balancing the mental demands of academic pursuits with the physical benefits of fitness and recreation. Campus Recreation provides programming and activities in health and fitness, informal (open) recreation, instructional programs, intramural and extramural sports, outdoor adventures, waterfront, sports clubs, and special events. The Recreation Center offers a fitness center and court area that is equipped with locker rooms and shower facilities. The fitness center offers a stretching area, free weights, weight-resistance machines, and cardiovascular equipment. The court area offers recreation opportunities to play basketball and volleyball. Additionally, Campus Recreation facilitates intramural sports competitions in basketball, volleyball, quickball, ultimate soccer, and flag football. Sports clubs provide additional opportunities for competitions. For example, the CSUCI Sailing Club competes (along the coast of California) against several other notable universities and colleges during the fall and spring semesters. Campus Recreation also provides programs in outdoor adventures and waterfront including excursions such as hiking, camping, sport fishing, kayaking and sailing.
A: The University has a gymnasium, fitness center and playing fields that have been used for soccer and lacrosse, among other things.
The University recently acquired 153 acres of land that will be used for a new entry roadway for campus, estimated to be completed by summer 2010. Bicycle lanes and surface parking will be part of the new lands. The University plans to construct athletic facilities and playing fields on the 153-acre parcel. The timeline for completion of the playing fields has not yet been determined.
