Carl Reed, CI’s founding Director of Athletics, earned his Master’s degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation and Bachelor degree in Government from Saint Mary’s College of California. Carl began his career in athletics in July 1996 and comes to Channel Islands with a breadth of experience in athletics and facility and event management. Carl served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities, Operations and Events for Stanford Athletic Department from 2003-2009. Prior to joining Stanford, he was the Director of the Jenny Craig Pavilion at the University of San Diego for three years, as well as serving two years as Assistant Event Manager for the University of California, Berkeley.
Carl was instrumental in Stanford’s achievement of the NACDA Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup, previously known as the Sears Director’s Cup. This prestigious honor is presented to colleges and universities with the most success in collegiate athletics within various NCAA sponsored championships. In addition to Carl’s leadership in facility management, which fostered $200 million dollars of construction projects at Stanford, he provided oversight for Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Programs, and was responsible for and developed the departments Emergency Management Plan.
As CI’s Director of Athletics, Carl plans, develops, directs, and coordinates a comprehensive intercollegiate athletics program as part of the University’s focus on wellness. Carl works closely with students, faculty, staff and community members to strategically implement an athletic program that compliments the University’s mission and enhances CI pride!
